Work Smarter Not Harder

What invention could make your job easier to do?

In the 1800s, mixing ingredients while baking was a labor-intensive and time-consuming process; that is, until in 1884, when Willie Johnson, an African-American inventor from Cincinnati, Ohio, patented the first egg beater. By mechanizing two whisks together with a crank, Johnson found that he could make mixing easier for bakers. His invention also included the ability to interchange mixing tools, thus making his invention adaptive to a baker’s different needs.
