In 1885, Charles Alderton worked at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas, pouring carbonated drinks for customers from the soda fountain. In his spare time he devised new drink recipes by mixing different flavor combinations. He found one of his drinks
becoming popular as customers increasingly began to ask him to shoot them a “Waco.” Morrison, owner of the drug store, renamed the drink after a friend, Dr. Charles Pepper. As demand grew, Alderton and Morrison joined with the Circle A Ginger Ale Company to produce Dr. Pepper®.
